Jenn & Tom’s Sudbury Wedding Video

Jen & Tom’s wedding was a bit like a fairytale, they had the dream team, on a perfect summer day at the best wedding venue on the Kapiti Coast, Sudbury. All of those elements made for a hugely memorable day followed by an epic evening.

What I loved the most about Jenn and Tom’s wedding was that they made it their own. Instead of just following the rules they decided to be a little different and create their own schedule, and they thought what better way to do this then having a first dance in the afternoon before everyone sat down for dinner. It sounds a little unconventional at first, but all the guests had great fun on the dance floor and it was the perfect pick-me-up before sitting down for main meals and speeches.

The other thing that made their day visual feast was the golden light at sunset that we were able to capture with the couple. They had planned in advance to take a stroll with the photographer and I around sunset, which happened to coincide with them finishing their main meals. Being a little bit biased, I think that was the best decision they could have made in order to capture some stunning shots in the golden light and when you’re at Sudbury you don’t have to go far to come across some fantastic photo locations, it’s something that I encourage every couple to do at their wedding if the weather is right.

Tu & Dee’s Wedding Film

When Tu and Dee first contacted me about their story I instantly knew this was going to be a special occasion, they were so open about their journey and relationship that it was very easy to get on board for such an exciting day. Tu had planned and perfectly executed a surprise proposal to Dee at sunrise on Machu Pichu, which was why the wedding had been planned for the summer solstice (the longest day). Not to forget that Tu and Dee also had dreamed of a dawn ceremony on the beach at Porangahau with the rising sun in the background. The ceremony was followed up with a formal breakfast and lunch at their Marae and party in the evening at the local Country Club. Throw in a haka, some hula dancing and a special guest appearance by the Modern Maori Quartet and you’ve got all the ingredients for an unforgettable event.

In the wedding video, Tom the MC describes Tu as the most humble and generous person he knows, which I think is a fitting description of both of them.

When Dee first saw the film, she told me that we had created taonga for their family, which is probably the highest honour that I could achieve as a wedding filmmaker and is the ultimate goal when making a record of such an important occasion.

On that note, you’re probably itching to see the film which highlights their truly memorable wedding.

James & David’s Wedding Film – Same Day Edit

James and David’s small private wedding ceremony was held at the stunning Mana Lodge in Hawkes Bay. This secluded and simply jaw dropping wedding venue provided the perfect backdrop for their intimate wedding ceremony and family lunch.

Here is a short film I edited for them on the same day as the ceremony, which was followed up the following day with an epic party of grand proportions in Auckland with all of their friends in attendance.

Lisa & Eric’s Christchurch wedding film

Lisa & Eric chose to have a small intimate garden wedding ceremony at Dyers House in Christchurch on a stunning Autumn day. When Lisa first contacted me about a wedding video, she mentioned they wanted to have a film that showed them having a fun date in the park and in true Italian style that she and Eric were going to be using a Vespa to get around the city. That sounded like just the sort of story I wanted to tell so it was off to Christchurch for a weekend to film their wedding. There is a lot more to Lisa & Eric’s story, but as I’m a better videographer than I am a writer I’ll just let their wedding video below speak for itself.

Jasmine & Richard’s Brackenridge Wedding Film

I love a bit of Scottish culture at a wedding and Richard’s proud ancestry provided plenty of that. I soon learnt that Scottish tradition included bringing along a massive 5ft sword (aka a claymore) which was proudly on display at the wedding ceremony. Jasmine, who is not one to be outdone by her new husband, also rustled up an equally impressive surprise drum solo at the end of the night before the couples’ first dance. Brackenridge put on a stunning day and the weather was picture perfect. The photographer Mary Sylvia had scoped out an excellent location for photos and the bridal party had fun in the field, but really, all of this is much better to see in the video than read on my website. So let’s get on with the film.

One of the highlights was a fantastic traditional Scottish toast at the end of the film from Richards father.

May the best ye hae ivver seen be the warst ye’ll ivver see.
May the moose ne’er lea’ yer pantry wi a tear-drap in its ee.
May ye aye be hail an hertie till ye’r auld eneuch tae dee.
May ye aye juist be sae happie as A wuss ye aye tae be.

Translation:
May the best you have ever seen be the worst you will ever see.
May the mouse never leave your pantry with a tear drop in its eye.
May you always stay hale and hearty until you are old enough to die.
May you still be as happy as I always wish you to be.

Kelly & CJ’s Brackenridge Wedding Film

If Kelly & CJ’s wedding film could be summed up in one word, then it would be ‘awesome’. It featured an intimate church ceremony at St Andrews in Martinborough before guests were transported back to Brackenridge for the wedding reception. CJ’s love of superheroes featured not just on the table decorations and the groomsmen’s cufflinks but also on the wedding cake, and one of the best quotes from the night ‘Kelly must be his Lois Lane’. What a great couple these two make. They also had one of the most fun bridal parties I’ve filmed all summer. They were masters at having a fun time and made for plenty of laughs on the creative photos session in the afternoon.

Kelly & CJ personalised the wedding with plenty of their own creative touches too, and even hired a double decker bus to drive Kelly to the church and then ferry the guests around for the day :)

Sam and Rachel’s Foxglove Wedding Film

Where do I start with Rachel and Sam? They are both awesomely fun and hugely talented people with big hearts to match. They have both got a ton of stage experience so it was only natural that the ceremony was held on the stage at the Lower Hutt Little Theatre, the perfect venue for our leading lady and leading man. Once they tied the knot, the party then moved on to Foxglove for a memorable evening on the Wellington waterfront. Not before stopping off at some of their favourite Wellington locations for some photos.

Weddings like theirs are a dream to attend, it was a real celebration overflowing with both energy and excitement. It’s the type of event that reminds you how special a wedding celebration should be. I only hope the wedding film does justice to the memory and excitement that everyone felt on the day.

When Rachel and Sam are “really really really old”, I hope they’ll look back at this video and say they their journey of love, laughter, music, silliness, truth and understanding all started officially on this incredible day.

Sarah & Nathan’s Boomrock Wedding Film

Nathan and Sarah’s wedding was certainly full of surprises, like the moment a freakin’ cannon went off the moment of their first kiss during the ceremony! Talk about nearly scare the living daylights out of me, let alone poor grandma in the second row ;)

Nathan and his groomsmen started his day with cut throat razor shave down at the Boar and Blade while Sarah and the girls got pampered in the top floor of Rydges Hotel in the city. Sarah was lucky enough to fly in the Helipro chopper for her grand entrance at Boomrock where the formalities began with a stunning view over the coast towards the South Island. The bridal party shot off for some photos while guests got into the activities with a spot of golf practice before the reception got into full swing (pun intended). Nathan and Sarah were treated with a spectacular and memorable sunset to round out the day. The Noodles were on hand to ensure that the party went all night and some clever individual decided we should let the cannon off again! Although this time we were prepared for it :)

Congrats Sarah and Nathan on your amazing day.

Times are changing…

Things are changing around here and some of the more eagle eyed of you will have noticed a subtle difference on my website lately. I’ve decided that my future lies in video and am no longer offering wedding photography on my website. The main reason is so that I can concentrate on being a better filmmaker.

Two years ago I shot 24 weddings over the summer season and half of those were photo and the other half were video. In the most recent wedding season I managed another 25 weddings and only three of them were photography, the rest were wedding films. So in an effort to continue that trend I’ve decided that it’s time to shift exclusively to wedding video.

That may be a little confusing as I haven’t updated my website address, which still says “Jono Tucker Photography” and I’ll just have to live with that, but what you’ll find is a whole bunch of wedding films when you get here.

The other reason for the change was that I was getting a lot of enquiries where couples wanted both photo and video and I simply don’t have enough staff and cameras for both photo and video. So by focusing on just one discipline I can create better films for the couples that choose me to make a film for them.

There are a whole bunch of very talented wedding photographers in Wellington and indeed around the rest of the country, and I really enjoy working along side those creative types. So if you want a wedding videographer then please do get in touch and I’d love to work along side your wedding photographer of choice.
